Our young Latvian players Ralfs Iesalnieks and Roberts Macs are actively preparing for the new season with South Georgia Technical College, a strong NJCAA Division I junior college program.
This is a very competitive level of basketball. Just one example: last season, South Georgia Tech defeated Chipola College during the regular season — one of the strongest programs at this level.
For Ralfs Iesalnieks, this will be his second year in American college basketball. Last season, he went through extremely tough competition and earned the right to remain with the team. After the season, only two players from the previous roster remained — and Ralfs was one of them.
Now he knows exactly what awaits him: tough competition, daily work, and a constant battle for playing time and a place in the rotation.
Ralfs is a product of a sports school in the small Latvian town of Līvāni. His father, Juris Iesalnieks, is the senior coach, while his mother is the director of the school.
This is a great example of how a talented and hardworking young player from a small town can make the journey to a high level of American college basketball.
Perhaps Ralfs did not receive enough media attention in Latvia. We hope that American basketball will give him the opportunity to showcase his abilities to a much wider audience.
Roberts Macs is also a product of a small Latvian town. He played for Riga Juniors before coming to the United States.
A major role in helping Roberts take the next step was played by well-known Latvian coach Gundars Vētra. He contacted Boris Karebin, President of BK-CENTRE, and recommended Roberts.
Boris then contacted our partner Nathan Altenhofen, and we activated the opportunity for Roberts to join South Georgia Tech.
The coaching staff knows how hard Ralfs works. If Roberts works with the same level of dedication and discipline, he can also have a very promising future in American basketball.
🎯 OUR PHILOSOPHY
This is a very important principle for us.
BK-CENTRE is committed to working with top-level programs and top-level coaches who can do more than simply give a player a roster spot. They must be able to provide real development, quality training, strong competition, and a clear pathway to the next level.
We try to avoid placing our players in programs that consistently operate in the bottom half of their conferences, as well as with coaches who cannot provide the level of preparation and player development that serious prospects need.
A move to American college basketball should mean moving forward and moving up.
If a player enters the wrong program, where the training environment, development, competition, or coaching level is not strong enough, instead of climbing, the player can begin to slide backward.
When that happens, the player can lose value, and serious university programs can gradually lose interest.
Our responsibility is to make sure that every player we work with increases their value, develops as a basketball player, and has the opportunity to move to a higher level every season.
🏀 This is a very demanding league.
As in any junior college program, there is intense competition for playing time and roster positions. Coaches keep the players who prove their value, work every day, and demonstrate that they genuinely want to develop.
Players who cannot earn a place in the rotation or do not demonstrate the necessary work ethic and commitment often do not get a second opportunity at this level.
We know how seriously and professionally our players work. That is why we believe Ralfs and Roberts have everything they need to succeed.
